About Anahita

Helping Students Speak French with Confidence Since 2000

When people ask me why I became a French teacher, the answer is simple. I fell in love with the French language long before I ever thought about teaching it.

My own journey began while studying at Alliance Française in Mumbai. Our teacher had one rule: during class we spoke only French. If anyone accidentally spoke English, we paid a one rupee fine. At the time it felt like a challenge. Today, I realise it was one of the greatest lessons I ever received. It taught me that confidence comes from using a language, not simply studying it.

As my French improved, I began to appreciate not only the language itself but also the culture, traditions and way of life that surrounded it. That experience changed the direction of my life.

A Passion That Became a Career

While continuing my French studies, I was offered the opportunity to teach English at L’École Française Internationale de Mumbai, working with kindergarten and primary school students. Later, I was promoted to Executive Assistant to the Principal. In that role I communicated in French every day with students, teachers, parents and visitors.

Those years allowed me to experience French not simply as a language, but as a way of communicating, building relationships and working within a French speaking community.

Establishing French Tutor Sydney

After moving to Sydney, I established French Tutor Sydney in 2000. My goal was never to create a large tutoring business. It was to create a place where students could enjoy learning French in a supportive, encouraging and personalised environment.

More than twenty-five years later, that philosophy has never changed. Every lesson is still carefully planned around the individual student. Every student’s goals matter. Every student’s progress is important.

Why I Love Teaching French

The greatest satisfaction comes from seeing confidence grow. There is always a moment during a student’s learning journey when something suddenly clicks. A pronunciation becomes natural. A conversation flows more easily. A grammar concept that once seemed confusing suddenly makes sense. Watching students discover that they really can speak French is one of the greatest rewards of my profession.

Pronunciation Matters

One aspect of teaching that has always been especially important to me is pronunciation. French has its own rhythm and sound. Helping students develop accurate pronunciation from the beginning gives them confidence to communicate naturally. Rather than treating pronunciation as a separate topic, it forms part of every lesson.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe every student is capable of learning French. Some learn quickly. Others need more time. There is no right or wrong pace. What matters is having a teacher who understands your individual needs and explains the language in a way that makes sense.

Complex grammar is broken into smaller, practical ideas. New vocabulary is reinforced through conversation and carefully designed exercises. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes and enjoy the learning process.
